Credit Card Fraud - How we protect you
Unfortunately Internet fraud is on the rise. This mainly consists of credit card fraud. People stealing other people’s credit or debit cards and using them to buy expensive items such as those JBO Solutions supply. These items are then sold off at a fraction of the price they are worth.
Around 3 % of orders placed at JBO Solutions are fraudulent or could possibly be fraudulent. Fortunately very few get through thanks to our security check procedure.
Here are some of the ways we are combating fraud.
- We will only despatch to your billing address on the first purchase. Card companies allow us to check that the address you have inputted matches with the address they hold on record. If it doesn’t match - we do not despatch. Whilst we do sometimes make exceptions to this rule, we never do unless it has been specifically requested before the order has been placed.
- We request that you provide a fixed line telephone number. Being mobile phones are so difficult to trace a land line offers better security. Secondly in some circumstances the telephone number can be checked in the phone directory. We appreciate that this is not always possible to provide so it is not an essential requirement.
- We request you do not provide free email accounts such as yahoo, hotmail or Gmail. These can be created in an instant and are pretty much untraceable. using a fixed email account such as joe.bloggs@btinternet.com is much preferred. Again this is not a requirement.
- We verify your details on the electoral roll. Anyone who chooses to vote will be listed on this. It is proof that whoever is using your card actually lives where they say they live.
- We may ask for further identification to be faxed or emailed. This can be a drivers licence or other forms that show your name and address clearly. If you request an alternative delivery address you will often be asked to provide this.
Interestingly the police generally do not seem to act on fraudulent attempts to purchase. We have reported every case to the police but they seem powerless to do anything unless the goods have been despatched. Of course at JBO Solutions we do not let it get that far which would mean, it seems, the the criminals have got away with their attempt. This is of course just an observation from ourselves and perhaps more is going on in the background to prevent this that we do not know about.Working together with the card companies and authorities we can stamp out credit card and other online fraudulent activities. We appreciate that some things may seem inconvenient to you but they are for your protection as well as our own.
Recently as an example we had someone order something from the site. They even use or live chat facility to enquire about the order and when it would be despatched. We reacted quickly and terminated the transaction. A gentleman contacted us a few days later. His bank account had been emptied with many fraudulent purchases. After we advised him that we had already taken action and refunded the transaction he praised us on our vigilance.
These sorts of things are happening everyday. You can feel assured that at JBO Solutions we are doing everything within our power to stamp this out.
